Our training methods

Amref Health Africa works in partnership with government, civil society organisations and the private sector to offer training solutions.  Training needs are established in partnership with the respective ministries of health in a country.

We use a variety of ‘tools of our time’ such as computers, mobile phones and CDs to deliver training with sessions for practical.  We apply a mix of conventional and distance learning to offer blended learning to ensure that the health workers get the most out of the training offered without inconveniencing the health facilities which already have limited skilled health workforce. By 2015, we are looking to have trained 15,000 midwives using diverse methods including classroom training, eLearning and mLearning.

Training has began in seven countries, with 3,434 midwives still in training and 2,555 already completed.  Training is for pre service and in service students.

The additional 15,000 midwives Amref Health Africa aims to train with this campaign will take place in 13 countries>>
